Duke Ellington è stato un musicista jazz (pianoforte). Nato il 29 aprile 1899 a Washington, morto il 24 maggio 1974 a New York. Lo stile è di solito associato a jazz, swing e gospel. Etichette: Columbia Records, Decca Records e Philips Records. La discografia qui comprende 89 album, da «The Duke» (1940) a «Copenhagen 1958 (bonus: After Hours 1950)» (2024). Tra i riconoscimenti: Lola alla migliore colonna sonora originale (1957), medaglia Spingarn (1959) e Grammy Award alla carriera (1966).

Duke Ellington, pseudonimo di Edward Kennedy Ellington (Washington, 29 aprile 1899 – New York, 24 maggio 1974), è stato un direttore d'orchestra, compositore e pianista statunitense. Duke Ellington è considerato uno dei massimi compositori del '900, oltre le etichette di genere; grande è stata e rimane la sua influenza su generazioni di jazzisti: dalle orchestre bianche di Woody Herman e Charlie Barnet a Thelonious Monk e Charles Mingus, e poi le avanguardie più underground di Sun Ra e Archie Shepp. Grande è il debito nei confronti del duca anche da parte dell'esule africano Dollar Brand, Muhal Richard Abrams e di Anthony Davis.
